Benchtop & Hardware Updates in Melbourne

Handles, mirrors, hinges and kickboards: the details that finish a refresh.

Handles, mirrors and accessories only: strictly non-plumbing, non-electrical fixtures.

Benchtop and hardware updates are the finishing touches of a cosmetic kitchen or bathroom makeover: new cabinet handles and knobs, mirrors, towel rails and hooks, soft-close hinges, kickboards, end panels and accessories, for Melbourne homeowners, landlords and sellers who want the room to look finished. The benchtop itself stays; we do not cut, resurface or replace it.

Hardware dates a room faster than the cabinets do. Doors resprayed under Cabinetry & Vanity Resurfacing still look old behind their original bow handles, so we fit new hardware as the last step of a makeover or on its own as a quick lift.

The scope is strictly non-plumbing and non-electrical: we fit fixtures that screw, clip or glue on, never anything connected to water, gas or wiring. Taps, basins, lights and heated towel rails belong to a plumber or electrician.

When you need it

  • Cupboards have just been resprayed and the old handles, with their faded plating, undo the effect.
  • The bathroom mirror is losing its silvering or is too small for the vanity.
  • Doors slam, drop or sit crooked because the hinges have worn out.
  • Kickboards have swollen from a mopped floor, or end panels are chipped where chairs scrape.
  • A rental needs towel rails, hooks and a roll holder refitted before the next tenant.

What is included

  • New handles and knobs fitted with a drilling jig so every door and drawer matches.
  • Old mirror taken down, wall made good and the new mirror hung level over the vanity.
  • Soft-close hinges swapped onto existing doors and adjusted so the gaps run even.
  • Kickboards and end panels replaced or refitted to match the cabinets.
  • Towel rails, hooks and roll holders fixed into solid backing, every fixing tested.

Our preparation and application process

  1. Step 1: Measure and match

Hole spacing, hinge type and mirror size are checked against your choices before anything is drilled.

  2. Step 2: Protect the room

Benchtops, basins, splashbacks and floors are covered before any drilling starts.

  3. Step 3: Remove and make good

Old handles, hinges, mirrors and rails come off; unused holes are filled, sanded and touched up.

  4. Step 4: Fit and align

Hardware goes on with a jig and a level, hinges are adjusted so doors close square and mirrors hang plumb.

  5. Step 5: Cure and clean up

Filler and mirror adhesive cure before anything takes weight, every fixing is tested and the room is vacuumed.

Materials and systems

Cabinet handles and knobs

Bar, bow, cup, finger-pull and knob styles in brushed, matt black, chrome, brass-tone or timber finishes.

Mirrors

Frameless, framed or round mirrors sized to the vanity and fixed with clips or mirror adhesive.

Accessories and fixtures

Towel rails, hooks, roll holders, soft-close hinges, kickboards and end panels: anything that screws or glues on.

What affects the cost

  • How many handles, hinges and fixtures are changing.
  • Filling and touching up old holes, which takes longer than a like-for-like swap.
  • Mirror size and fixing method, and whether the wall needs patching once the old mirror is off.
  • Whether you supply the hardware or we do, and the finish you choose.
  • Whether it is done in the same visit as cabinet resurfacing or tile recoating.

How long it takes

A handle swap on an average kitchen typically takes half a day to a day, depending on door count and whether old holes need filling; adding hinges, a mirror and bathroom accessories stretches it to one to two days.

Mirror adhesive needs to set, so a hung mirror is typically left alone overnight, depending on the product and the weather. Handles go onto resprayed doors only once the coating can take a screw without marking.

How to prepare

  • Choose the handle style and finish and count the doors and drawers.
  • Measure the hole spacing on an existing handle so new ones can match it, or we plan to fill and redrill.
  • Clear the vanity top and benchtop so drilling dust does not settle on your things.
  • Have any hardware you are supplying on site on the day, with the mirror checked for chips.

FAQ

Hardware Updates: questions people ask.

Do you replace or resurface benchtops?

No. This service covers the hardware around the benchtop: handles, knobs, hinges, kickboards, end panels, mirrors and accessories. The benchtop stays as it is; a tired top is a job for a benchtop fabricator.

Can you fit handles with different hole spacing?

Yes. The old holes are filled, sanded and touched up to match the door colour, then the new handles are drilled with a jig to one consistent position; the filled holes vanish if the doors are resprayed at the same time.

How much does it cost to replace handles and bathroom hardware?

It depends on the number of handles and fixtures, whether old holes need filling, the mirror size and wall condition, and whether you supply the hardware or we do. Send a photo and a door count and we will give you a free, no-obligation quote.

How long does it take to replace cabinet handles?

Typically half a day to a day for a kitchen handle swap, and one to two days when hinges, a mirror and accessories are added, depending on door count and whether old holes need filling.
